Ian Thompson is a Wellington based photographer who specialises in portrait, fine art and urban photography.
The images in the four galleries were captured between October 2010 and May 2011 in Vancouver, Montreal and Toronto. All images where captured using a Canon 5D Mark II and either a Canon EF 24mm f/1.4 L lens (used for most images) or Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L lens. Images were shot with the philosophy of minimising the amount of post processing that would be required. As a result only Adobe Lightroom was used for image processing.
The Portrait Gallery is exclusively images taken at the Metro Vancouver Photography Workshops run by Chris Pike.
The Fine Art Gallery shows images that isolate shape or form and are typically simple but often clinical and sterile.
The Urban Gallery shows the desolation that exists in many of Canada's largest cities. While many of these cities are considered modern and marketed as being attractive places to live, the reality can be quite different.
The Derelict Gallery shows places that have been left to decay. With the buildings no longer used for their original purpose they have been taken over by the graffiti artist. Their art is hidden from public view and exists until such time as the building is demolished when the art is lost forever.
